ABSTRACT
The use of computer based system in library is now common place in most developed part of the world. In the institute of management and technology library Enugu, with a reference library, there is much pressure on the workers in the reference section due to many user needing to get information.
This research which deals mainly on the reference section of library will see to the ways books are use for reference, the processes involved, it will also see to the way of reducing the pressure on the workers side by using a computer based reference and lending system. This work describes the problem of manual system and describes the design of the new system. It is implemented in visual Basic Environment. Its application to library will not only revolutionized the library system but also elevate the library to modern standard taking cognizance of merit and potential of computers of our modern era.
ORGANIZATION OF WORK
This project work is organized in seven chapters. The first chapter introduces the topic library classification system and it 1st following by a review of related literature.
Chapter three deal with the description of manual system and the analysis of the work. It went to discuss the design of the new system, which encompasses both the design and specification of input and output, file design and flow charts with the system requirement. The implementation is discussed in chapter five together with the program design showing pseudo-code test and source program. Documentation of the program follow and the work is summarized in the conclusion giving recommendations.

INTRODUCTION
A library is a room or building containing books that can be looted at. Or is a collection of books and other material kept for reading, studying and consultation. It is basically a service institution, a social engine propelling the wheels of knowledge, to read to know and to obtain information. The library is a growing organization. This is true for the fact that the materials in the library grow with information explosion and awareness and clientele seeking them.
The IMT library divided into four major classifications which include:
REFERENCE SECTION: A reference library is that which contain books to be consulted for information there but not to be taken away. A reference library contains mainly books that can be used to make reference. A reference book is one that is not read through, but consulted for information. Example a dictionary or encyclopedia books and materials provided here must of necessity be on hand for consultation at any time, therefore they are not as a rule available for loan.
In reference section, if user comes to make reference, the librarian on the duty will direct the person cannot find it, the librarian will ask for the name of the book, the classification and author, and will then check on the book catalogue. If the book is then found, the user will then collect his information because the section away. The section allows photocopy of the reference material to make and then they will be registered and the user pays for the services. The payment per copy of the photocopied material if five naira (N 5).
The subject for the reference stock is languages
Medicine Atlases
The United Kingdom Encyclopedia
Law Economic
Dictionary History
Education CBDD|DFID|COLLECTIONS
Applied science Generals
Publishers
Reference book Oversized books
Syllables Pure science
TECHNICAL SERVICES: Cataloguing and classification these involve physical, description of the materials and assigning of subject areas, from these activate the catalogue and catalogue cards are generated and maintained.
PUBLICATION SERVICES: This under takes the responsibility of the registration of reader charging and discharging of materials (books) reserve and reference services.
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT: Ordering and purchase of materials.
A library is an intermediate store of public available information between those who procedure such information authors and publisher and those who need to use that type of information.
Accordingly, it is true maximum that
These are however realizable only if easy to needed information is available and efficient.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In the reference section of a library there is improper recordkeeping some of the information and the page containing them are some time smuggle by are user without the knowledge of the librarian. There is time wastage in searching for the books, which contain the information needed. Due to many users making reference at the same time from the same book, many users have to wait endlessly for their turn. Also there is improper record of the number of material that was photocopied and due charge to placed upon since the daily record in a register. There is also reluctance on the side of the workers carryout his duty due to too much pressure on the work.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of carrying out this research work are:
1. To over come the problem of improper record keeping.
2. To design a new system that will contain less or no problem in the reference section.
3. To reduce time wasting, thereby quickening the activities in the section.
PURPOSE OF STUDY
The purpose of this study is to over come the problems of improper record keeping in the section to determine the objectives, to overcome the pressure on the side of the staff to reduce if not overcome the time spent in searching for right reference books needed by the user.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Computerized library classification system software offers professional and efficient library management.
SCOPE /DELIMITATION
This study generally talks about computers in relation to the library classification system for readers.
The result of this study was suppose to include library classification regarding all the students in institute of management and technology management board Enugu, readers from various schools (higher institution) in Enugu Sate because of the great information required and the time involved the library classification system. This study will also facilitate for guide and accurate information analysis.
